For Immediate Release
Following today's announcement about protecting Atlantic City's water system from a corporate takeover, the following statement was released by Lena Smith, Food & Water Watch senior organizer:
“Keeping Atlantic City’s water system in public hands is a huge victory for the residents and activists who went door-to-door fighting for their human right to clean water. The ACMUA provides clean, affordable drinking water to thousands of residents living in Atlantic City. The water utility should remain as is to protect the system from private water profiteers.
“Over 100 volunteers went door-to-door fighting to protect the ACMUA. They are the ones who made this happen. The people have spoken, and their message was clear: ‘Our water, our voice.'”
“The incoming administration must take action to end the state takeover of Atlantic City, which would restore democratic and civil rights for residents."
